The History And Workings of The Supreme Court

On February 1st 1790, the birth of the states highest court took place. The Supreme Court would originally take place in New York City in1970. The supreme court would later take it's place as we know it today in the Nations Capital.

The Supreme Court consists of 9 justices. Since 1800's it has been know for justices to wear the long black robes that we still see them in today. Another tradition that these justices due before starting their job each day is they all shake hands with each other when behind chambers and are about to start making decisions. This practice was put in place in order to show that they are all there to do a job, not agree with each other all the time. But the handshakes represent the respect they share for all the other justices each day.

The supreme court is made up of 9 justices as a whole. Within these 9 justices there is a chief justice as well as six associate justices. These 6 associate justices are elected and serve an eight year term. While the chief justice serves a lifetime appointment on the supreme court. All justices apart of the Supreme Court are required to take two oaths in order to become apart of the supreme court.

The whole process starts with a written petition to act that is sent to the Supreme Court. These petitions arrive in the thousands to the court year after year. All 9 justices behind chambers consider the petitions from many different type of people from prisoners to presidents and all those in-between. And make there decisions. But in the public court room, that is where the national questions are debated and discussed.

The Supreme Court has become an example for courts all around the world. But to this day it still remains the highest power court in the world. The supreme court will remain the strongest court as they continue to be the last line of justice for those searching and its role in making sure each branch of the government knows their own limits of power and control.

My Top 5 Sources of News and Information

 I use Tik Tok

on average 4.5 hours a day. This is because I use it for entertainment but also as an outlet to get my news and information. I use it because Tik Tok allows me to find out the latest news by watching a video up to 3 minutes long about any topic. I also like that so many people are on Tik Tok so that means a lot of opinions are contributed and we can find news out faster since there is so many people all around the world with the ability to share news on the app. I think others should use Tik Tok because it is user friendly to use and also is an app where you can cater your videos to what you want to see. If you are more for the news side then you can make it so your algorithm shows more videos about the news. Or if you are like me and you enjoy sport highlights then you can make it so the majority of videos you see on your account. The other nice thing about Tik Tok is that you are able to toggle between a "For you" tab and a "following" tab for videos. So, it allows you to separate videos from the users you follow and the videos and users that the app itself is suggesting you watch.

I use Google news the most out of any other news source when looking to read about an issue or event. This is due to the amount of information I am able to gain from using it. It not only gives me good headlines about the topic I search but it also gives me scholarly articles to support the search results that shows up. It gives me a range of articles and responses. It won't just be the most recent at the top. It is the best answer and or response at the top. I also like Goggle News for how easy it is to use. I just need to type in the box any topic or idea and bam, the results start flowing and the results are coming from all around the world. Not just about in the United States or local, results are from all over. Speaking of all over the world, you aren't just given articles about whatever topic you discuss but you also are able to access videos and photos too.

I use the BBC because they try their best to deliver news that is accurate and unbiased. Or as much as possible being unbiased, it aims to inform the public without taking sides. The BBC covers a wide range of stories from around the world, giving people a better understanding of what’s happening in different countries. The BBC follows their mission of outputting unbiased news by checking facts carefully before sharing the information on their site. The BBC is trusted by many people all around the world, which is also nice as you have a wide variety of viewers and readers. Meaning that stories will be diverse as well. BBC does well at quickly and accurately reporting important problems and events from around the world.

As a college aged student, I find out the most information daily on Instagram. This is because with Instagram I am able to cater what I see on my feed each time I am to log in a scroll. So, I can make sure I see the latest sneaker drop, basketball highlights, or a good crock pot recipe. All while I see what my friends are up to as well. It gives me and user the opportunity to share live updates through posts, stories, and live videos. Big name outlets like NFL, NHL, CBS, FOX, CNN, and influencers around the world use instagram to release news, updates, and behind-the-scenes content. Also, Instagram makes it effective for storytelling, as images and videos can convey information quickly and impact fully.

ESPN is a good source of news and information, especially for me as an avid sports fan and a sport management major. This is mainly because ESPN' s wide coverage of sports. Within the site I can accomplish a few different things.  I can see up-to-date and live scores of many different types of events, highlights, and also analysis of how teams and players are performing. That makes the decision easy to use it since it's a go to for many sport fans around the globe. ESPN doesn't only cover major sports events but also does pieces on emerging stories, player interviews, and team updates, making sure that the fans can stay informed and in the know for all their teams and players within the sport world.
